After 23andMe Clinic’s pilot launch, my team and I began planning how to scale the product for 23andMe’s next health initiative: PGt-Informed Mental Health.
This initiative would require the ability for patients to schedule consultations, 2-way messaging, membership management, shipment tracking, and much more. At this point in time, 23andMe Clinic only supported viewing current and past Total Health consultations.
23andMe Clinic was evolving beyond a feature for consultation tracking into a full-blown Telehealth platform.
With only a 1-month design timeline, I decided to approach this project the same way I did for Lemonaid Health’s account hub—treating 23andMe Clinic’s landing page as a patient dashboard.
I wanted to surface the most important, actionable information above the fold and the least important information at the bottom of the screen. Additional information related to a topic (shipments, consultations, memberships, etc.) could be accessed in subsequent layering, reducing mental load and isolating patient management actions to reduce mental load.
The redesigned dashboard successfully launched, expanding 23andMe’s mental health care, supporting ad-hoc consultation scheduling, membership enrollment, medication management, and shipment tracking within a single cohesive experience.
This new architecture established a scalable framework for future product growth and reduce reliance on one-off flows as 23andMe business partners planned for additional healthcare services. The dashboard model created a consistent entry point for patients across programs, enabling 23andMe to launch new clinical features more quickly while maintaining a unified patient experience.
